World’s largest short film festival teams up with Mobli app for mirco event with a laughter theme

Tropfest, which describes itself as ‘the world’s largest short film festival’, with events taking place next year in a number of countries including Australia, China, USA and Israel, has teamed up with photo and video sharing app, Mobli for the 1st Annual Tropfest Micro Film Festival.

Submission deadline is 15 January 2013 and is open to all mobile filmmakers – but there is a catch: your film MUST contain laughter or a laugh and be no longer that 70 seconds in length.

Entries must also be submitted via the Mobli app (Android and BlackBerry also available) and tagged to the TropfestMicro channel. For a full set of terms and conditions, see the festival’s rules page.

Winners of the Tropfest Micro Film Festival, brainchild of actor Tobey Maguire and also backed by Leonardo DiCaprio, will be flown to Australia where their film will be screened in front of an audience of over 150,000, and take home a cash prize of $10,000.

“We’re all storytellers and with a visual platform like Mobli, we’re not just being given access to watch films at a festival, but to be active participants, no matter who we are or where we are in the world,” Maguire said, at the launch earlier this year.

Tropfest is supported by some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, receiving thousands of submissions each year from students and filmmakers around the world.

“Additionally, filmmakers and their project(s) will gain invaluable exposure and notoriety in front of industry insiders. We strongly encourage all film enthusiasts and aspiring directors/producers to partake in this competition and get connected to the most influential people in the industry,” says Mobli spokesperson Chi Zhao.
