Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood to judge Vimeo awards

Radiohead bass player Colin Greenwood confirmed as a judge in the 2012 Vimeo + Festival Awards

Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood and actor James Franco have been confirmed as judges in this year’s Vimeo + Festival Awards, which take place in New York City in June.

Submisssion deadline is 20 February 2012, so there is still time submit a video and put yourself in the frame for up to $30,000 in grants.

Entrants can submit any original work as long as it premiered online between 31 July 2010 and 20 February 2012, or any original work that has never premiered anywhere.

The winner of each category receives a grant of $5,000 and the Grand Prize winner receives a $25,000 grant to produce new work.

The judges panel consists of three judges per category across 13 categories, and also includes actor and director James Franco; Parks and Recreation Star Aziz Ansari, 2012 Oscar Nominee Lucy Walker (who was a judge in 2010); Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood; Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright; snowboard superstar Travis Rice; Thierry Mugler and UNIQLO creative director Nicola Formichetti; Shelley Page of DreamWorks Animation; Barbara London of The Museum of Modern Art; advertising legend David Droga; and many more.

“The aim of the Vimeo Festival + Awards is to become the gold standard for creative online video,” festival director Jeremy Boxer, told smartmoviemaking.com.

“We designed the programme to focus on discovering the best new talent and to give that talent a platform that will catapult their careers to the next level. We are proud to reveal our new panel of esteemed judges.”

Eliot Rausch was a grand prize winner in 2010 for Last Minutes with ODEN his visceral, moving portrait of his friend’s final days as he battled cancer.

“Vimeo created a platform that has changed the language of storytelling,” he said. “The way we share our innermost being has been flipped on its head – a true revolution of consciousness. It is indescribable, the feeling I have after winning the award, knowing my voice has been heard, that millions have been touched and maybe the world is better because of it.”

British actor Lucy Walker (co-director of Wasteland) said: “I am very glad to be back as a judge for the Vimeo awards this year. I’m very excited to see the new shortlist and the evolution of documentary as a new generation of talent comes through with new stories to tell and new ways of telling them.”
