Panoramic video device the ‘Dot’ broadens its scope with Android version

The Dot brings panoramic video to your smartphone

Kogeto, makers of the ‘Dot’ panoramic video device, which up to now has only been available on the iPhone, announced at CES 2012 that it is to launch an Android version.

The New York startup raised its initial funding on Kickstarter a year ago. It came to Las Vegas to show off the device on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, and promised to make it available on more Android phones.

Kogeto also revealed it has raised a further $1m in venture funding and that the lens will be on sale in all US Apple stores from 24 January, and in Apple stores in Europe soon after that.

The clip-ondevice, which sells for $79, captures immersive, fully navigable, panoramic video in real-timethat can be streamed online through its web platform or shared on Facebook and Twitter.

“At Kogeto, we are dedicated to putting mobile, high-qualitypanoramic video in the hands of the 550,000 Android phones that are activated each day,” said Jeff Glasse, CEO of Kogeto. “More importantly, this is a monumental step for panoramic video, as it is now readily available to nearly all phone carriers, manufacturers and consumers.”
