Nokia announce short film competition

Nokia, whose new N8 model is posing a serious challenge to the iPhone 4 as the best cameraphone on the market, has launched a short film competition with prizes up to $10,000 on offer.

To enter all you need is a Vimeo account and a Nokia N8 from which you send in a short pitch of your idea.

Eight entries will be shortlisted and given a $5,000 budget and two Nokia N8 handsets to make their short movie. Premieres of the films are to be held at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

For more information see the Vimeo website or click here. Closing date for pitches is 17 April 2011.

The Nokia N8 has been receiving recognition for its film capabilities after a seven-minute short was filmed on it called The Commuter starring Charles Dance.

Among the Nokia N8’s features that have been attracting film-makers and photographers is the Carl Zeiss Optics and the capability of recording HD video with a stabilising option. It also has a front and rear facing microphone, HDMI out port and supports Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.
