New app allows you to ‘Spott’ film locations

While out filming on our smartphones we may occasionally come across a location that looks familiar.

Well, a new app for Apple and Android called Spott helps find and identify famous film locations nearby.

You can browse it by location, what’s ‘near you’, or by film, TV show, or actor.

The app also wants users to become ‘spotters’ and help compile a comprehensive map of film and TV locations.

I tried it in London, (the app costs $2.89) and it is really a bit of fun, but could become a handy reference tool for smart moviemakers.

A quick search in Soho highlighted locations used in Bond movies, Trainspotting and Dr Who with a brief description of the scenes.

If you are that way inclined, through an augmented reality feature, you can also submit a photo of yourself at the location and add them to the gallery.

If you are making films on iPhones and smartphones, upload them to our new Vimeo channel and we will review them on the site
