Wednesdays, 9pm (EST), on YouTube

We like the look — and sound — of the Once a Week Online Film Festival, a new showcase on YouTube for indie and smart moviemakers to get their work seen.

“The festival aims to give filmmakers a greater amount of exposure by showcasing one specific film on the YouTube channel for an entire week to a limitless audience,” says festival director Mark Thimijan.

From a weekly selection, festival organisers choose the highest rated entry to show on the homepage for an entire week from 9pm (Eastern Standard Time) every Wednesday.

The criteria are that the films must be under 20 minutes and all films showcased come directly from submissions to the YouTube channel.

“Each selected film will stay on the channel forever and as the festival grows will receive more and more views,  says Thimijan.

The first film was shown in September 2010 and the festival has been building a gradual online following with those of us who want to see something a little different.

We’ll be dropping in again this Wednesday, so see you there — and spread the word.
